Frequently Asked Questions

If you don't find your question here, try our new student forum. It may be answered there.

I am interested in doing the yoga course in Vancouver but can you please clarify whether I will have to do the Level 1 course first or does the Level 2 (500 hour program) incorporate the Level 1?

Our 500 hour Diploma program includes both Level 1 and Level 2. There are no prerequisites

I've already completed a Yoga Alliance registered 200 hour program at another school. Can I register for Prana Yoga College's 300 hour upgrade program?

Yes, at which point you will be a fully registered 500 hour Yoga Teacher.

How much is the application fee?

$125 CAD. Please be aware that this fee is non-refundable if you are accepted into the course. However, if we decline your application for any reason, we will refund the fee.

When accepted into the program, can the $125 application fee be credited against the total tuition fee?

The application fee is separate and distinct from tuition and is charged specifically to cover the administrative expenses involved with accepting and reviewing applications. Therefore it cannot be credited towards your tuition.

How long after being accepted into the program do I have to pay the first deposit?

You have 10 days to pay the deposit.

I've already taken the Prana Yoga Teacher College Level 1 200 hr program and I wish to apply to the Level 2 300 hr program. Do I still need to fill out the application and pay the $125 application fee?

Yes, unless you have already applied in advance for the Level 1 and 2 combined 500 hr program. But you needn't submit a second biography (unless you wish).

Can I fill out a paper application form and mail it instead?

Yes, a PDF version of our application can be found here and mailed to us.

I don't wish to use a credit card. What are my other options?

A certified cheque from a bank (we don't take personal cheques) or a money order made out to "Prana Yoga Teacher College, Inc."

Is the 500hr Diploma program held only in Vancouver? I am interested in taking this in Thailand.

Currently, the 500hr Diploma program is only held in Vancouver, BC. We have had some recent interest in holding this program in Thailand, and will consider this option, but cannot guarantee Thailand as a location at this time.

Do you hold programs in Mexico and Asia or other parts of the world?

We hold a Level 1 200 hr program in Thailand and also, in late-fall 2007 we are holding a level 1 200 hr program in Antigua in the Caribbean. In the past we have also held programs in Mexico and Shanghai, China, however currently no program dates have been set for these locations. If we finalize an international program, it will be listed on our website on the "Training Program Calendar."

What kind of financial aid is available?

Due to our accreditation status with PCTIA and BCSAP designation (and registration with most provinces) Financial Aid and student loans are available to cover a portion of the tuition for Canadian residents applying for the 500hr Diploma program only. Students taking Level 1 by itself or the Level 2 upgrade by itself are not currently eligible.

Does shakti mhi teach all of the courses?

shakti teaches 90% of all program content for Level 1, while guest instructors are brought in to share their fields of expertise. For Level 2, shakti teaches approximately 50% of all program content while other Program Leaders teach in their areas of expertise.

Can Prana Yoga College provide T2202 claim forms for continuing education workshop fees?

As per the stipulations of the form available at http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/E/pbg/tf/t2202/t2202-06e.pdf, to qualify for the part time education amount the student must have been enrolled in a specified educational program. Such a program must last at least 3 consecutive weeks and involve a minimum of 12 hours of instruction each month on courses in the program. A continuing education workshop taken independently of a specified program would not fulfill the above requirements.

Do I need a study permit to enter Canada for this program?

If you are planning to study in Canada for longer than 6 months, you will be required to obtain a study permit from a Canadian consulate, high commission or embassy. If you plan to stay in Canada for less than six months on a tourist visa, and subsequently study for longer than 6 months, it is recommended that the study permit is obtained prior to initial arrival to Canada. If you do not, you may be required to leave Canada in order to apply for the study permit and continue your studies.

So, what kind of visa will I need to enter the country, since I do not need a student visa? (unless above exception applies to you)

Depending on your nationality, you might need a visitor (tourist) visa to visit Canada. Some countries have reciprocal arrangements such that no visa is required at all, and you simply need your passport. As requirements are frequently changed and unique to each country, you will need to contact your Canadian consulate, high commission or embassy in your city (or nearest metropolis). Look for the number in your local directory, or by doing an on-line search. This will ensure that you have all of the information you need to have a successful and well planned journey.

Your school/program is on the list of Accredited Colleges for which I can receive funding. If I receive funding from said source can I use it towards your continuing education workshops instead of the whole program?

Each private or governmental body has its own requirements and guidelines for funding. You will need to first clarify this with a representative of the organization to which you are applying for financial assistance. We will provide you with any information you require to support your application.
